Frank Whilde (b. 4th Q 1919) was the son of William and Lily (nee Anthony) Whilde. Little is known about Frank, but a local resident has informed us that, prior to joining up, Frank was a plumber, apprenticed to Mr Wilbraham. Photographs of past pupils of Jacksdale School indicate that Frank was a pupil there in 1932.

Frank was killed in action whilst patrolling the Monte Grande Sector of Italy.

He is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Italy, which commemorates over 4,000 men with no known graves who fell in the assaults upon the shores of Sicily and Italy or in later battles to free Italian soil.
