Harry was born about 1878 as when he joined the army on 30th May 1915 at Gateshead he was aged 37 years and 6 months. Harry signed on for 4 years. He gave his civilian occupation as ‘actor’. On 13th July 1903 he had married actress Louisa Selina Bates at Worksop, Notts. He gave his home address as c/o Alfred and Eliza Peasnall, actor and actress, The Travelling Van, Portland Arms Yard, Jacksdale.
In 1916 the Army assessed his health as he was suffering from asthma but no disability was found. He served in England for the duration of the war being discharged on 11th Feb 1919. and was demobbed to c/o Peasnall, Wagstaff Lane, Jacksdale.
In February 1940 The Derbyshire Times and Chesterfield Herald published the following obituary for Alfred Peasnall. ‘Death of Alfred Peasnall of Jacksdale. The death of Mr Alfred Peasnall (82) of Wagstaff Lane, Jacksdale removes a well known local character. Formerly a travelling player associated with ‘Teddy Raynor’s’ portable theatre. Mr Peasnall’s stage career began with a troupe of performing dogs. His wife the late Mrs E. Peasnall belonged to a notable theatrical family and was formerly in theatre management with her husband. Both were well known in Derbyshire where Mr Peasnall’s audiences greeted him with his nick name “Ginger.” Mrs Peasnall died a few years ago. For about 20 years they had lived in Jacksdale.’
