Private Arthur Tabberer

Arthur was born at Normanton, Derby in 1883, son of James Tabberer, a navvy and estate labourer and his wife Elizabeth (nee Snow). Arthur had brothers and sisters Charles, Emma, Henry, James, Herbert and John. In 1911 Arthur had moved to Jacksdale, employed as a pipe loader at the clay pipe works and lodging with Thomas and Edith Smith at Ivy Cottages, Franklin Road.
In 1914 Arthur married local Westwood girl, Annie Mills and they had a son named James Arthur in 1915. By 1918/1919 they had set up home at Main Road, Jacksdale as Arthur is listed on the Absent Voters Roll as absent from that address. Arthur’s military records have not survived but his Medal Rolls Index Card records that he was a recipient of the British War and Victory Medals. His wife, Annie Tabberer was a member of the Jacksdale Hospital Committee in the late 1930s, helping to organise fund raising dances, jumble sales, races and events for ‘Hospital Week’. In 1939 she was part of a group of volunteers who took 1,031 locally donated eggs to the Nottingham hospitals.
Annie Annie died in 1952, aged 69 and is buried at Westwood, St Mary’s. Arthur later moved to the Bradford area to be nearer his son James and died there in 1962, aged 80. Arthur was interred at Westwood, St Mary’s with his wife Annie.
