Frank was born in 1895 at Ironville the son of James Riley an ironworks puddler and his wife Mary (nee Wilson) both born in Ironville. He had brothers Ernest and Fred. In 1911 the family was living at 12, Tank Street, Ironville and Frank was employed as a gas fitter.

No information has been found relating to Frank’s time in the military. Frank’s brother Ernest Riley is also listed on the Jacksdale War Memorial as having served in WW1, dying of wounds in September 1917.

In 1919 Frank married Ethel Storer in the Basford Registration District. They went on to have children, Reginald, Nancy and Peggy, all christened at Westwood, St. Mary’s. The father’s occupation is noted as gas fitter and the family home first as Sedgwick Street and later as Franklin Road, Jacksdale.

His wife Ethel died in 1962 and Frank died in 1963 aged 68 years. They are both buried at St. Mary’s.
