Thomas was born in 1875 at Ripley, Derbyshire, son of Joseph Revill a farm labourer originating from Warsop, Notts and his wife Elizabeth (nee Lea) of Lancashire. He had brothers and sisters John, Francis, Lilian, Harriett, Ernest and George. (His brother George also served in WW1).
On 27th March 1893 Thomas married Ellen Sparham at Ironville Christ Church. At time of marriage his occupation is given as a forge man resident at Golden Valley. By 1911 they were living at King William Street, Ironville. They had children Mary Hannah, Francis William, Annie, Sarah Elizabeth, Agnes, Lucy Maria, Mabel and Alice.
Thomas joined up on 8th January 1915. His service record states that he was an iron worker, 5’6″ tall, with a birthmark in his left groin and a scar caused by a cut to the back of his right thumb. His home address is given as 24, Casson Street, Ironville. Thomas was part of the expeditionary force arriving in Egypt on 28th August 1915. The following year, he was part of the British Expeditionary Force serving in France by 28th June 1916. No further military information has been forthcoming other than that his Medal Rolls Index Card shows he was a recipient of the 1914-15 Star, the British War and Victory Medals. He was discharged from the Army on 5th March 1919.
