Private Richard Mullard

Richard Mullard was born in 1871 at Tenbury, Shropshire son of Thomas Mullard, a coal miner contractor and his wife Thirza (nee Rickers) who had moved to Pye Hill in 1881 from Ironbridge, Madeley, Shropshire. Richard had brothers and sisters Margaret, Mary Elizabeth, William, Rose Hannah, George and Arthur. In 1889 Richard’s mother Thirza died. In 1891 Richard, an iron puddler aged 21, was living at home at Pye Hill with his widowed father and siblings. In 1907 Richard’s father, Thomas died.
Richard enlisted on 9th February 1915. His full service records have not survived. On 4th August 1917 he was awarded Silver War Badge B314348 due to ‘sickness’. His final discharge date was 17th December 1918. Richard was a recipient of the Victory and British War Medals.
