John Lowe, known as ‘Jack’ was born in 1876 at Westwood, Notts and in 1911 he was employed as a bricklayer and was living at Old Westwood (Palmerston Street) with his wife Mary Ann (nee Green) born Wednesbury, Staffs. They had children Lucy Maud, Ethel May, John William, Emma, Samuel, Glwyn(?), Mary Ann (Polly), Minnie and Frank.
John’s grandson Edgar relates that John only joined up after having a few drinks and by June 1915 was serving in Egypt. He was a recipient of the 1914-15 Star, the British War and Victory Medals.
His wife Mary Ann died in 1936, aged 60 and John died in 1967, aged 92, in the Basford Registration District.
