Kenneth Willie Foulds was born in 1899 at Pye Hill, Jacksdale and baptised at the Pye Hill Providence Chapel on 30th May. His parents were Samuel Foulds, born 1874 at Codnor, a coal miner hewer, groom and later colliery deputy. His mother was Mary Louisa Foulds (nee Burnham) born 1877 at Codnor Park. In 1901 the family was living at Pye Hill but by 1911 had moved to Providence Road, Jacksdale.

Ken was one of four children, having a brother Reginald Burnham Foulds b. 1910, Jacksdale and sisters Nellie b. 1908, Jacksdale and Norah b. 1915. Nellie was baptised at the Pye Hill Provident Chapel in 1908; she went on to marry Thomas Judson in 1929. Norah was baptised at the Provident Chapel on 5th October 1915 and went on to marry Wycliffe Sharpe in 1940 at Pye Hill, the best man was the bride’s brother Reginald, the groom was a teacher in Sheffield and Nellie was a flatlock machinist at Morleys, in Heanor. We know very little about Ken’s military days except to say he was awarded the British War and Victory Medals.

He married Winifred Smith in 1925 and they had a son named Alan Smith Foulds, baptised at Pye Hill on 2nd June 1929, their home address given as Spring Cottage, Franklin Road, Jacksdale. Tragically Ken died in November 1930, aged only 31 and is buried at Ironville Church. His wife Winifred passed away on 9th June 1947 aged 43 and is buried with him.
