FLETCHER, Robert John

Private Robert John Fletcher
18674 South Staffordshire Regiment

477660 119th Labour Corps

John Robert Fletcher is listed on the Absent Voters Roll for 1918/1919 as absent from Old Westwood (Palmerston Street), Notts. The roll also gives his service number and regiment.  The Butterley Company’s Roll of Honour – ‘Names & Particulars of Employees who have left the Butterley Company to serve the country in the European War of 1914′,  mentions a R. Fletcher, coal wheeler of the Codnor Park Works  who enlisted in the Army on 17th April 1915. His Medal Rolls Index Card matches the above details and records he was  a recipient of the British War and Victory Medals.

We have not been able to find a Robert John Fletcher on the 1911 Census who has a convincing connection with the Jacksdale area. He was most likely born elsewhere and moved here after 1911. There is a family named Fletcher at Old Westwood in 1911, head of the household listed as John Robert Fletcher b. abt. 1869 in Holbeck, Leeds but there is no son named Robert John Fletcher residing in the household and we have been unable to find a connection with this particular family.  On the BMD, a Robert J Fletcher married an Annie Gore in the Basford District in 1913 and they had a son named Robert in 1914 and a daughter named Martha in 1915 in Basford.

Further information would be welcome.
