DENTON, Albert James

Private Albert James Denton
26641 Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regiment
604737 Labour Corps

Albert Denton, a labourer (aged 30) married Margaret Cope (nee Emmett, a widow aged 38) on 5th August 1912 at St. Mary’s, Westwood. The groom gave his father’s name as Albert but we have been unable to find his father on the census records. The bride, Margaret’s first husband was William Cope. On the 1911 census she was living at New Westwood with her first husband and they had been married for seventeen years, having produced 8 children, of which 6 were still living. So Albert, at a relatively young age, took on a ready made family and in 1913, he and Margaret produced a son of their own, Albert James and in 1914 a further son was born, Kenneth Denton who sadly died aged only 2 months and is buried at St. Mary’s, Westwood.

Albert is listed on the Absent Voters Roll 1918/1919 absent from New Westwood, Notts. His Medal Rolls Index Card records that he was a recipient of the British War and Victory Medals.
