Clarence was born in 1895 at Selston. In 1901 and 1911 the family was living at New Westwood. His parents Henry Castledine & Alice Merry married in 1893 in the Basford Registration District. Clarence’s siblings were:- Albert Edward, Alice, Gertrude Elizabeth, Frederick James, Ena, Norman and Rex. Of the eight children born to the family, by 1911 all eight had survived.

Clarence Castledine appears on the ‘Absent Voters List 1918/19’ as absent from Palmerston Street, Westwood.

He was married to Phoebe Annie (nee Green) in 1916 at St. Mary’s, Westwood, his occupation was given as miner. Phoebe, known as Annie, was the daughter of John and Amelia Green.

Clarence and Annie had three children, Beryl b. 1919, Eric b. 1923 and Albert H. b. 1918 who was buried at St. Mary’s, Westwood in 1937 aged 19. The burial register states that he died at Mansfield, ex-resident of Westwood.

Clarence’s father, Henry Castledine is buried at Westwood St. Mary’s Church, he died on the 30th November 1953, aged 80. Clarence’s mother, Alice, was also buried there in October 1955 aged 80 years, her address recorded as 3, New Westwood.
