Ernest was born abt. 1898 at Pye Hill, son of William Brudenall from Warmington, Northants and Elizabeth (nee Abbott) of Ironville. The family lived at Pye Hill and later at Albert Avenue, Jacksdale.
Three of Ernest’s brothers William Abbott, James and Arthur also served. In 1911 other siblings mentioned were Althea (m. Grundy) a pattern girl for a lace manufacturer and John George a coal miner/loader, but there may also have been another sister named Sophia, who married William Lovett in 1908 at St. Mary’s , Westwood. In 1911 Ernest was only 13 but already working at the local pit as a miner’s door keeper.
Ernest’s Medal Roll Index Card indicates that he was awarded the British War Medal.
