George was born on 31st December 1897 at Westwood, son of Albert Berrisford a coal miner born Selston and his wife Emma nee Green born Darlaston, Staffordshire.  In 1901 and 1911 the family were living at New Westwood. By 1911 they had produced 10 children of which 8 had survived. Amelia, Albert, George Edward, Samuel Henry, John, Lucy, Florrie and another son whom they also named George as George Edward was known as ‘Edward’.  In 1911 George Edward then aged 14 was employed as a baker’s errand boy.

No military information has been found except a medal index card recording that  he was a recipient of the British War and Victory Medals.  After the war in 1920 George married Martha Allsbrook Davey in the Basford District.

George’s death is recorded in the Mansfield District in 1977.
