Horace Timms was born in 1896, son of Thomas and Alittea Timms of Hanstubbin, Selston. His father Thomas was born in 1866 at Codnor Park (occupation - hairdresser) and his mother was born in 1867 at Selston. His brothers and sisters were, Elsie b. 1890, Wilfred b. 1894, Richard b. 1898 and Fanny b. 1900.
A 'Selston Roll of Honour' published in 1916, mentions Horace as follows:-
"The following are the names of the Selston men who have fallen in the service of their country, and for whom a memorial service was conducted at the Parish Church as mentioned last week:-
Private Horace Timms, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, killed in action, February 17th, 1916, aged 20 years."
