Ben Hopewell was born in 1893, son of John & Elizabeth Hopewell of Inkerman Road, Selston.   His father John was born in 1851 and his mother Elizabeth was born in 1854.  Ben had three sisters, Annie b. 1884, Bertha b. 1889 and Hannah b. 1891 and two brothers John b. 1880 (school teacher) and Arthur b. 1882.  

We have no information about Ben's military career as yet.  

Pioneer Hopewell is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension which contains 1,754 First World War Burials. He is also mentioned on his parents' grave in St Helen's Churchyard, his parents both died in 1931, his mother on 17th June, aged 77 and his father on 8th August, aged 80.
