Reginald Lee Hand was born in 1891, son of John & Hannah Hand of Hall Green Farm, Hobsic, Selston, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1853 and his mother Hannah was born in 1851. Reginald had four sisters, Bertha b. 1879 (school teacher), Pattie b. 1885, Martha Ellen ( who was to marry William George Tanner) and Ethel b. 1887. He also had two brothers Algernon b. 1889 and William (Billy) who also served in the war and was later a professional footballer for Crystal Palace.
Reginald is mentioned on his parents' grave in St Helen's churchyard. (His father John died on 14th March 1925, aged 74 years although his date of birth indicates he would have been 72). The family grave says that Reginald was interred at Remy Cemetery, Flanders. The Commonwealth War Graves, Roll of Honour indicates that he is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery which contains 9,901 Commonwealth burials from WW1, a few of which were brought in from the battlefields after the Armistice. It is the second largest Commonwealth Cemetery in Belgium.
