Thomas Banton was born in 1880 at Dickenhall, Derbyshire, the son of George & Eliza Banton.  He was also the husband of Annie Banton ( who later re-married and took the name Thornley) of Ivy Cottage, Midland Crossing, Pinxton, Nottinghamshire.

We know very little about his military career, except that he enlisted at Mansfield, Notts.
