Son of John Crowder of 42, Elnor Street, Langley Mill, Nottingham.

1901 Census -  John Crowder and his wife Eliza were  living at 42, Elnor Street.  John was a Railway Mason Builder. Edward, aged 16 was working as a Pottery Presser with place of birth given as Newthorpe, Notts.  His sister Annie was aged 9.
