MISSING – FEARED KILLED
UNKNOWN FATE OF EASTWOOD SOLDIER
PTE EDGAR JEPSON, Sherwood Foresters
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Jepson, of 25, Nethergreen, is reported as missing from his regiment since August 7th. Jepson enlisted in April last year, and since joining the forces has seen service in Madras (four months), Egypt (seven months), and was then transferred to France, where he landed in the early part of July. He was 23 years of age last April. We trust that the family will yet hear satisfactory news regarding the fate of their son, but they have been compelled to regard as extremely remote the prospects of any good news in view of the following letter from his corporal, dated August 13th: “It is a sad letter I have to write and I regret to say your son is missing, but I trust that he is well somewhere. I, however, fear he has been killed, as none of our fellows saw him after he went in the line. Of course, you must not give up hope, as it is possible he may have got lost somewhere … All our boys are deeply concerned about Edgar’s welfare, and all hope he is safe. I shall not fail to write you as soon as I hear something definite concerning him.”
